I think that’s three consecutive weeks that this post has been late 🙂 Transition is tough, but necessary I tell you…
1. ‘Something Forever’ by Slakah the Beatchild: I love this type of style. It’s neo soul, R&B and hip-hop wrapped into one awesome song. Slakah must be good friends with Raphael Saadiq and Q-Tip because this song feels like Instant Vintage and The Renaissance.
‘Something Forever’ is my favorite song off Slakah’s new album of the same name. I just checked out his Facebook page and his influences are DJ Jazzy Jeff, Raphael Saadiq, and J-Dilla… those are very good influences to have 🙂 This is the first time I’m hearing about Slakah, but I’m for sure listening closer to his work after hearing Something Forever.
2. ‘Just Another Adam’ by Adam Burrows: “It’s a new day, I can tell ’cause I can see the sun.” I’m pretty sure that’s all I need to hear 🙂 Add a couple of guitars and trumpets and boom, you have a great song.
Need a good road song? Check out ‘Just Another Adam’. Mr. Burrows’ voice fits nicely with the simple instrumentation. Forget the A/C, just roll down the windows and cruise!
3. ‘4 U’ by B: Ran into B’s album Jesus today and I’m impressed, he’s got smooth beats and smooth flows all over it. It’s actually a sleeper album, one of those awesome albums that you own and don’t understand why your friends don’t.
“B” a.k.a. Blu put together a great album which features some big name hip-hop artists like Planet Asia, Alchemist and Madlib. Enjoy ‘4 U’, but get the whole album if you have the cash and pay attention to Blu, he might be the next big thing.
YOU’VE GOT MY ATTENTION: Black Rob with your new album Game Tested, Streets Approved. I never forgot you brotha, to this day I still bump ‘Like Whoa’ every now and then. I have no idea where you’ve been and what you’ve been doing, but it’s good to see that you wanted to give it another go. I wish you success and in your honor sir I’ll post your feel good song of the album ‘Celebration’ on the blog this week.
